Lets start with the Starbucks version of a macchiato. The difference is the amount of milk in the drink. Starbucks also launched a latte macchiato, which is its new name for steamed milk topped with shots of espresso. The term macchiato actually means marked or stained, so it translates to stained coffee. The traditional macchiato originated in Italy. However, if you go to a place like Starbucks, youll have to order an espresso macchiato to avoid the syrups and extra milk. They taste really similar to the Starbucks espresso shots at Starbucks and gave this drink an incredibly close flavor profile to the original drink. You can use any kind of espresso shots that you have available to you, but I will say that if you have a Nespresso, these espresso pods are my new fave. Espresso: For a grande, they would add 2 shots of espresso, so I decided to use two espresso pods for my Nespresso.To replicate this part of the drink, you can buy pre-made vanilla syrup or you can make it with just 3 ingredients at home. Vanilla syrup: vanilla syrup is added to the bottom of the cup.Here are the ingredients that Starbucks uses in their coffee: The goal here was to get as similar a flavor profile as possible to the Starbucks caramel macchiato, so to do that, I needed to know exactly what was in their version of this coffee drink. Starbucks uses just a few ingredients: vanilla syrup, espresso shots, milk of choice, and caramel drizzle on top. Its a sweet, creamy drink with tons of flavor, so its highly addicting. The iced caramel macchiato is one of the most popular drinks at Starbucks during the warmer months. Skim milk, sugar free vanilla syrup, no whip, topped with creamy foam and drizzled with a little caramel. It is the best skinny drink in my opinion and it is only 105 calories in a tall, or 140 calories in a Venti, for the days I really need a delish pick-me-up. Ice – I like to use really small ice cubes or even crushed ice for drinks like this.My personal favorite, Skinny Caramel Macchiato.Espresso – a full-bodied, fresh brewed espresso is perfect for this recipe.If you’re a caramel fanatic you could probably use all caramel syrup instead of using any vanilla…but you’d have to be a serious caramel lover! Sugar free vanilla syrup – Sweetness and a bit of balancing flavor are necessary when you’re playing with caramel in my opinion.You can always top yours off with caramel sauce if you’ve gotta have those sweet wisps of caramel. Instead of using a caramel sauce drizzle on top of the drink, I opted for a sugar free syrup that mixes the caramel flavor right in. Sugar free caramel syrup – This is the biggest difference between my version and the Starbucks version.I opted for ultra-filtered fat free milk for the extra protein and less fat. Milk – Starbucks’ standard milk used in their recipes (unless you specify otherwise) is 2% reduced fat milk.I kept things pretty simple for this homemade version of the Pink Drink, and you only need a few ingredients to make a really delicious dupe. Otherwise it all mixes together and tastes the same! If you’re sipping sans straw and have not mixed your drink, you’ll definitely notice a difference. The only real difference is how they’re built – for a latte the espresso is at the bottom of the cup, but for a macchiato, the espresso is poured over top of the milk.
